Pennsylvania Treasury Department
Using document management and workflow, the Pennsylvania Treasury Department is saving $32 million annually and realized a return on investment (ROI) in only eight hours of processing. Once paper-based, the Treasury now processes 90 percent of payments through electronic fund transfers (EFT), significantly reducing costs and improving constituent service. For just one of the treasury’s processes, at any given time there are 400,000 active direct deposit forms in one or more life cycles, 300,000 active debit card forms in one or more life cycles and 250,000 unique claimants per year. For another process, more than 20,000 payment transactions occur per hour. Benefits
- Saves $8 million every quarter, or $32 million per year, on SSP payments alone
- Achieved ROI in eight hours
- Reduces the cost for each SSP transaction from $9 to only $1.50, decreasing the cost by $7.50 per transaction
- Reduces the number of UC payments processed from 8 million to 3 million per year, a decrease of more than 60 percent
- Manages 400,000 active direct deposit forms and 300,000 active debit card forms at any given time
- SSP payments reach constituents in only one day and they avoid the expense of check cashing fees
- Handles a large influx of SSP payments as 285,000 of the 300,000 monthly transactions are paid out on the first of the month
- Accommodates up to 20,000 transactions per hour in SSP and 9,000 per hour in UC
- Reduces the number of employees processing unemployment compensation (UC) payments from nine to three
- Decreases the time processing UC payments from eight hours to only four, cutting the time in half
- Maintained, supported and expanded with in-house resources
